PDF page organization
Choose the right way to organize PDF pages.
Splitting, reordering, reversing, rotating, copying, numbering, and deleting pages solve different problems. This guide compares them in one place so you can choose the smallest operation and verify the result.
Before changing page order
- Keep the original PDF. Every operation creates a separate downloaded copy.
- Use PDF page positions, beginning at 1. Printed page labels such as i, ii, or 1 may not match those positions.
- Check whether bookmarks, internal links, forms, or digital signatures matter. Rebuilding a PDF can change or invalidate interactive features and signatures.
- For regulated, legally sensitive, health, financial, government, or child-related records, use an approved specialist workflow instead.
Compare the operations
Split or extract
Keep only the pages or ranges you name, such as 1-3, 7. Use this when the output should contain a subset in the order entered.
Open Split PDFRearrange
Write the complete new order, including every page exactly once. Use this for a custom sequence rather than a simple reversal.
Open Rearrange PDFReverse
Put the last page first and the first page last. This is useful when a scan arrived in exactly backward order.
Open Reverse pagesExtract odd or even pages
Create a copy containing pages 1, 3, 5… or 2, 4, 6…. PDF positions may differ from page numbers printed on the document.
Open odd-page extractionDuplicate
Append copies of selected pages to the end. This does not insert them between existing pages.
Open Duplicate pagesAdd a blank page
Append one blank page matching the final page size. The blank page is added at the end.
Open Add blank pageRotate
Turn selected page canvases by 90, 180, or 270 degrees. Rotation does not rewrite text reading order.
Open Rotate PDFDelete
Remove selected pages while keeping at least one page. The original file remains unchanged.
Open Delete pagesAdd page numbers
Place sequential numbers at the bottom centre, beginning with the number you choose. Check for overlap with existing footers.
Open Page numbersA worked example
Suppose a six-page scan arrived in this order: back cover, page 5, page 4, page 3, page 2, front cover. Reverse pages produces the correct sequence only if the entire file is exactly backward. If one page is misplaced, use Rearrange and enter the complete intended order instead. If you need only pages 2 through 4, use Split rather than deleting three other pages.
Verification checklist
- Open the downloaded copy without deleting the original.
- Count the pages and inspect the first, last, and every boundary where files or ranges meet.
- Confirm orientation, printed page labels, bookmarks, links, forms, and accessibility reading order where they matter.
- Use a different local PDF viewer for an important output. A successful download alone does not prove every feature survived.
Privacy and device limits
These ordinary page operations are designed to run in browser memory and do not intentionally send the PDF to the application server. The browser still needs enough device memory to read the original and create the new copy. A large or complex file may work better on a current desktop browser. No account is required, and the original remains on your device unless you independently share it.
Common problems
The output order is still wrong
Return to the unchanged original and use Rearrange with the complete desired sequence. Do not repeatedly modify already modified copies unless you have verified each intermediate result.
A digital signature is no longer valid
Changing page structure commonly invalidates document signatures. This site does not preserve or certify cryptographic signatures. Use the issuer's approved workflow for a signed or legally sensitive record.
The browser ran out of memory
Close unused tabs, keep the original, and try a smaller file or current desktop browser. Browser processing avoids an ordinary server upload, but it is still bounded by the device's available memory.
